Join me in finding a cure for Coats' Disease!

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping us meet our goal for the 2022 Cure Coats' 5K.

Our almost 2 year old son, Marcello aka "Cello," started having a lazy eye on his left eye in December of 2021. On March 2, 2022 we found out his lazy eye was attributed to Coats' Disease, a rare eye disorder involving abnormal development of blood vessels in the retina. Located in the back of the eye, the retina sends light images to the brain and is essential to eyesight. In people with Coats' disease, retinal capillaries break open and leak fluid into the back of the eye. In some cases, Coats' disease can cause the eye to go blind. There still isn't a cure for Coats' disease. It will be an on-going care and monitoring Cello's vision closely to retain control of this rare diseases' progression until we find a cure. Cello received his first laser treatment in March which was to freeze the liquid and crystals that formed from the damaged blood vessels and prevent them from blocking his retina.

We are so thankful to have found out that the laser treatment worked and his eye is showing good signs of improvement. We continue to pray that his eye will reabsorb the remaining liquid and that he will gain the majority or all his vision back. He will need another laser treatment in June and in the meantime we are still using an eye patch for about 30-60mins a day to help address his lazy eye.

We are extremely thankful for the care we have received from Santa Clara Kaiser Permanente. Thank you Dr. Buu, Dr. Merrill and Dr. Lewis for discovering it and for providing Cello with the best next steps to treat his Coats' disease.

Our goal is to bring awareness and raise funds to find a cure for Coats' Disease. Any amount goes a long way, help us find a cure!

If you can join us on June 18 whether it's in person or virtually, we will be running/walking 5K for Cello and the rest of people with Coats'. If you decide to join us and would like to donate to the cause, please donate directly to our fundraising page or note "Marcello Montesinos" as your fundraising Team before purchasing your tickets. More details below on the 5k run.
